Eugenia uniflora, with common names Pitanga, Surinam cherry, Brazilian cherry or Cayenne cherry
The Surinam Cherry (Eugenia uniflora) is native to tropical South America's east coast from Suriname to southern Brazil. It is a large shrub or small tree with a conical form, growing slowly to 8 meters in height. Fragrant white flowers mature into reddish fruits up to 2 cm in diameter. The taste ranges from sweet to sour, depending on the cultivar and level of ripeness. The plant is relatively pest resistant, easy to grow and high in antioxidants.

Is this tree frog a handsome prince in disguise? It looks as if it is bearing a flower as a gift. The scene was captured by wildlife photographer Megan Lorenz in the rainforests of Sarapiqui, Costa Rica. She says: 'It was on a bit of an angle and as the frog went to move off the wood, he grabbed onto the fungi so he wouldn't slip off.'
Photograph by Megan Lorenz From "Top Shots," National Geographic, August 2013 On a photo excursion to Costa Rica, Lorenz wanted desperately to photograph red-eyed tree frogs. Just before dusk she got lucky: One approached a branch nearby. Unsteady, it grabbed a stalk of fungus to balance itself, then quickly climbed away.

During a photo tour to Costa Rica Megan Lorenz wanted to take a picture of red-eyed tree frog. Towards the twilight of her fortune smiled frog climbing to the next node. Staggering, he grabbed the leg of the fungus to balance it, and then quickly crawled away.

This two toed sloth had wandered into my yard in Gamboa, Panama.
This two toed sloth had wandered into my yard in Gamboa Panama when I was working there with @christianziegler a few years ago on assignment for @natgeo. I took a few photos and then left it alone. Later on that night I went to check on it and found it had somehow wandered into the neighbors fenced off back yard and was having trouble finding its way out. Using a branch I lifted it across the fence and took it to the nearest patch of forest. Think sloths are gentle creatures? This one chased me back across the lawn as soon as I set it down. Check out @anandavarma if you want to see what an awkward sloth attack looks like. #onassignment #sloth #panama #rainforest #Gamboa @thephotosociety by natgeo
