“I’ve made reservations for us at a bed and breakfast up in the hill country. You and I are going to take a Texas road trip for a few days and forget about everyone else.” “Oh, Sol.” He barely caught her as she unexpectedly jumped off the stool and into his arms. He hugged her tight. “You’ve already given me more than you can imagine. I never thought I’d be happy again after Marc, but you keep proving me wrong.” -Resignation

It took another thirty minutes of walking through dense undergrowth before the seventy-seven foot statue of Sam Houston came into view. I vaguely remembered hearing about it being built back in the nineties, but that was about the time I’d graduated and gotten the hell out of my dad’s house. A memorial statue of one of Texas’ founding fathers wasn’t high on my priorities list then. Seeing him like a beacon beneath the blinding sun brought tears to my eyes. -Day Shift

They might spend their days keeping the evil at bay, well away from the living stone wall that surrounded the Kingdom of Halstrid. However, fighting such vile creatures had turned them into creatures themselves. They were gargoyles, flesh and blood when they wished, or stone when in battle. -Born of Stone

She stopped to read the titles and mused over the mostly eighties fare. Then she moved on and sifted through a pile of shoes, but found nothing in her size. With a sigh, she left that table and crossed the dirty concrete passageway to the next row. With some regret, she conceded there might not be anything there for her. She couldn't rightly say what she was searching for. -Into the Darkness

“All right, beautiful. Let’s go see some butterflies.” Unable to help myself, I giggled and grabbed his hand. He just laughed again and I didn’t even care if he was laughing at me. The line wasn’t very long and in no time we were stepping through a set of glass doors into paradise. -Two-Week Trial

“You’ve really never been here before?” I turned at the sound of disbelief in his voice and stared into his piercing gaze. He was so damn handsome it took my breath away and seemed to sneak up on me at times like this. We were standing close together in a small alcove, surrounded by trees I couldn’t name and more butterflies than I’d ever seen in my life. “N-no, I haven’t.” -Two-Week Trial
