The Weather Project by Olafur Eliasson. Installation art at it's best.
Olafur Eliasson_weather Eliasson is a Danish artist who could be considered a phenomenologist. “His works challenge presuppositions of our surroundings by creating situations that require viewers to reorder their perception of the environment and their place within it.” This project in New York consisted of 4 waterfalls placed at various points along the East River, including one under the Brooklyn Bridge. Artist Daniel Palacios has made the waveform a piece of physical art that encourages us to ponder the utility and the beauty of visual sound. Waves is an installation that uses two motors to oscillate a length of rope, creating a visual reminiscent of a digital waveform while creating it’s own whipping hum from the motion of the rope cutting through the air.
Waves by Daniel Palacios. A long piece of rope represents three dimensionally a series of waves floating in space, as well as producing sounds from the physical action of their movement: the rope which creates the volume also simultaneously creates the sound by cutting through the air, making up a single element.

Brilliant work! Waves by Daniel Palacios. 'Waves' utilizes a basic construction of a long piece of elastic string and two motors to visualize the presence of people close to the installation. The string between the two motorized chambers reacts to the people presence and movements, it twirls to produce a sine-wave simulation that eloquently resembles both the digitization of real-time sound waves and patterns of flow and connectivity found in natural systems.

Symphony in D Minor an interactive sound and video installation. A thunderstorm contained within a series of large hand cast resin sculptures, each individual form is a unique instrument hanging 40 feet from the ceiling. Suspended just within reach and activated by touch, the viewer sets the symphony in motion by pushing the forms through the air to trigger the various sound elements of the storm.
