The Rose Garden at the Huntington features an entrance pathway that leads to an 18th-century French stone tempietto and statue, “Love, the Captive of Youth,” encircled by “French Lace” roses. The beds north of the arbor next to the Shakespeare Garden have a paved walk, and feature Tea and China roses and their descendants, first introduced into Europe from China around 1900.

Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens; San Marino, CA...one of my most favorite places to visit!!
Huntington Garden's Rose Garden - Stunning to walk through!
When we lived in Southern Ca. we had season passes to the Huntington. Love Love Loved it! On the south side of the rose arbor are nineteenth-century shrub roses, descended from old European varieties. Climbing and rambling roses—from all periods and groups—grow on the arbors, arches, and pergolas.

Thomas Lawrence - Pink Lady
Pinkie -- Pinkie is the traditional title for the portrait by Thomas Lawrence in 1794. It is in the permanent collection of the Huntington Library at San Marino, California, where it hangs opposite The Blue Boy. These two works are the centerpieces of the institute's art collection, which specializes in 18th-century English portraiture. The painting is an elegant depiction of Sarah Barrett Moulton, who was about eleven years old when painted.

Blue Boy (c. 1770) is an oil painting by Thomas Gainsborough. Perhaps Gainsborough's most famous work. The portrait now resides in the Huntington Library, San Marino, Calif.
The Blue Boy by Thomas Gainsborough, oil on canvas, 1770: This is the artist's most famous work and served as an homage to the Flemish Baroque artist Anthony Van Dyck, which is why the figure is dressed in a costume that would have been worn some 140 years prior to when the work was done.

The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens: Here you will find an unparalleled collection of rare books and manuscripts. You can also take a tour of the Botanical Gardens, which span 120 beautiful acres. Occasionally the garden is graced by the blooming offspring of the Amorphophallus titanum aka Corpse flower; so foul in odor that thousands of people flock to the garden to experience the "stench of death" in its most living form!
