Elephant sculpture made from old flip flops. Ocean Sole, the flip flop recycling company cleans beaches and creates art from flip flops that wash up on the beach - ~400,000 recycled flip flops per year!
Abandoned flipflops are an environmental disaster. Thousands upon thousands of them are washed up onto the beaches and coast of Kenya. Ocean Sole is a small foundation that works on marine conservation with local communities. They work with artisans to transform the discarded flipflops into elephants, giraffes, lions, rhinos, dolphins, sharks, turtles and more. The artists are local men and women in need of employment who have been trained how to make the sculptures.
Ocean Sole works with artits to turn old discarded flip flops into colorful animal sculptures.
What a great way to protect our marine life and spread the message.

Xu Bing, one of China’s most renown contemporary artists, has created a unique tiger rug from 500,000 cigarettes. Weighing an impressive 440 pounds, the work of art will be on display at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, through December 4, 2011. The cigarette tiger rug is just one of the many tobacco-related artworks in Xu Bing’s latest collection, which explores themes from global trade, marketing and packaging of on of the world’s most controversial commodities.

She creates art from littered fishing line, twine, nets and other random plastic objects.
