www.thorstenscheuermann.com Last light on Half Dome from Yosemite Valley. This was a magical evening: I was sitting on the river across from Housekeeping Camp and had my side all to myself. The water was perfectly calm and everything was very quiet, despite the many campers across the river. Just after the sun had set a ton of bats came out and circled around just above the water, probably to catch bugs. They also made ripples as they touched the water mid-flight to take a drink. After about fifteen minutes of just sitting there and enjoying the spectacle the bats moved on to better hunting grounds. I appreciate that it's still possible to have this kind of experience in a crowded natural area like Yosemite Valley in the middle of summer.
