Indiana, Our Indiana

One photo a day, most every day, for the 2012-13 school year at Indiana University's Bloomington campus. Hopefully it does this special place and this special community justice.

May 2, 2013. This is what it's all about. Photo by Mark Land.

May 1, 2013. The IU campus is pretty any time of year, but maybe nothing is as cheerful as the tulips in bloom in front of Sample Gates - and this year just in time for commencement. Photo by Mark Land.

April 30, 2013. This is probably my favorite week of the year at IU. My office sits next to iconic Sample Gates, which sees a steady stream of soon-to-be grads taking pictures with their friends, making lasting mementos. Who cares if you have to stop traffic for just a moment in the process? Photo by Mark Land.

April 27, 2013. IU baseball is having a season to remember and doing it in a memorable new venue, beautiful Bart Kaufman Field, which opened this season. Here, Hoosiers third baseman Dustin DeMuth gets ready to take a rip in today's game against Michigan, which IU won. Photo by Mark Land.

April 13, 2013. Of all the good things at today's annual IU football Cream and Crimson spring game, nothing was better than seeing quarterback Tre Roberson (blue jersey) back in action for first time since his injury last year. Football fans will want to get onboard the IU train, because the Hoosiers will be better again this year. Photo by Mark Land.

March 25, 2013. Like any community Indiana University is touched by moments of tragedy, such as the loss of IU Police Department Chief Keith Cash who died of natural causes far too young and too suddenly last week. Police officers around the state were among the hundreds to pay their respects at a service this afternoon for one of IU's greatest friends and protectors. Photo by Mark Land.

March 25, 2013. Spring snow stinks, but at least it makes for a pretty picture. Photo by Mark Land.

March 14, 2013. A year ago, Bloomington residents were treated to a spectacular run of March weather that was enough to make spring break revelers jealous. Today, not so much. On this snowy mid-March day, charm had to be found in the solitude of an empty campus. Photo by Mark Land.

March 10, 2013. It took 20 years, but the IU men's basketball team is the undisputed king of the Big Ten hill this year. The team was treated to a raucous welcome from nearly 400 people when it returned to Bloomington tonight after a title-clinching victory over Michigan. True to character, the players - including star center Cody Zeller shown here - and coaches obliged by signing autographs and posing for pictures. Photo by Karen Land.

Feb. 12, 2013. IU boasts one of the best collegiate cinemas in the country housed in a state-of-the-art theater located inside IU Auditorium. In just over two years, the cinema has shown more than 450 different films that have entertained and educated thousands of students and community residents. Learn more at

Feb. 11, 2013. The I.M. Pei-designed IU Art Museum is striking at any time, but perhaps never more so than during the evening when it is bathed in rainbow of color thanks to the light totem installed in 2007 to commemorate the museum's 25th anniversary. Photo by Mark Land.

Jan. 11, 2013. Class started four days ago with 10 inches of snow on the ground. Today, it's sunny and 55. It was enough to make this bird sing. Photo by Mark Land

Dec. 26, 2012. The first major snow storm in a couple of years blanketed Bloomington and the IU campus with nearly a foot of snow, leaving behind a winter wonderland of scenic photo possibilities. Photo by Mark Land.

Dec. 25, 2012. Merry Christmas, Hoosier Nation! (P.S. - sorry for being away for awhile. Sometimes life/work get in the way of our fun). Photo by Mark Land

Nov. 24, 2012. Two days after Thanksgiving and signs of Christmas are popping up everywhere. This reindeer made a stop at the holiday farmer's market in downtown Bloomington to the delight of kids of all ages. Can the jolly man in the red suit be far behind? Photo by Mark Land.

Nov. 15, 2012. The seasons they are a changing around campus as this decorated lamp post can attest. Photo by Mark Land.

Nov. 9, 2012. There is no shortage of scenic views on the Bloomington campus to attract amateur and professional memory makers alike. Here, a crew from ESPN sets up over the shoulder of a sculpture of local music legend Hoagy Carmichael to get a shot of IU Cinema for a piece that aired during a recent IU football game shown by the network. Nov. 8, 2012. Once upon the time, the arboretum was a stadium where the Little 500 was held from the early 1950s until 1981. All that's left is a small memorial to Little 500 competitors during that period - and a great view campus. Photo by Mark Land.

Nov. 7, 2012. One never knows when the urge to nap will become overwhelming, so it's good to know that the Memorial Union has no shortage of comfy couches at the ready. Photo by Mark Land.

Nov. 6, 2012. Much attention is given to the subject of young voters, but if the lines - outside and inside - at IU's Union Street Center, a student apartment complex, are any indication turnout will be strong for this year's national election. Photo by Mark Land.

Nov. 5, 2012. Work on Hoge Hall, the Kelley School of Business new undergraduate center, is in full swing. The expansion and renovation of the school's undergraduate facilities will provide students with a technology-rich learning environment certain to enhance Kelley's already strong national reputation. Nov. 4, 2012. Science made fun is the best kind of science for many of us. This pool ball pendulum-like device created by an IU physics student to demonstrate wave properties certainly qualifies. Photo by Mark Land.

Nov. 3, 2012. The scoreboard says it all as the IU football team capped a busy sports weekend with a victory over Iowa. The win gave the Hoosiers their first two-game Big Ten winning streak in five years and kept alive our hopes for a bowl game. Photo by Karen Land.

Nov. 2, 2012. Now this seems like work. IU's cross country team, fresh off a successful Big Ten meet in which Zach Mayhew became the first Hoosier to win a conference title in nearly 20 years, hosted the Hoosier Invitational today, featuring runners from universities and colleges across Indiana. Nov.1, 2012. Where there are lots of trees you tend to find lots of birds, such as these I found circling over Bryan Hall and the Maurer School of Law this week. Fortunately, they didn't seem to be angry birds. Photo by Mark Land.
