Sept. 17, 2013, 9,641 requests for help for domestic violence services were turned away due to a lack of resources. Sixty percent of those denied requests were for shelter. The National Network to End Domestic Violence and Avon Foundation for Women launched the results of the 2013 National Domestic Violence Census Report at a Congressional Briefing in Washington, D.C. on March 6, 2014. The report found that on any given day, nearly 10,000 requests of victims asking for help cannot be met. Stay tuned for more info from the event.

On a Random Day in the U.S. There Are More Than 66,000 Requests for Help Escaping Domestic Violence - The dynamics of domestic violence are complex and changing them requires not just one thing to change, but many things simultaneously.
"Why doesn't she just leave him?" ignores not only the real risk of death, but the cultural, social, economic and structural environment that people function in and is fundamentally based on the belief that the person being assaulted is in control of the situation or to blame for the violence.
