Lovely corner store cafe...New Orleans is a place to visit over and over. Best memory was going there to get a Talking Big Bird for my granddaughter in 1980(?). They were hot, she wanted one, and there were none to be found in Mississippi, where I lived at the time. She was going to get a Talking Big Bird if I had to drive to Hell and back
New Orleans...you have to love this one.

New Orleans. Joan of Ark Statue on Decatur in the French Quarter. Before this statue was put here, there was this beautiful huge tree. I thought the city was going to go crazy when they tore it down. The statue is beautiful.
Joan of Arc is the patron saint of #NewOrleans. They even have a parade celebrating her
St. Joan of Arc, Maid of Orleans statue. A gift to New Orleans from France. She now presides over the New Place de France Park at the intersection of St. Philip and Decatur near the French Market. Grand and lovely is this lady <3

An odd hurricane record...reminds me a bit of the signs some military families hang with all the places they've been stationed...

Canal Street 1957. My mom would walk from our house to Canal Street. She would pay her electric bill on Camp St. and we would shop on Canal street for clothes and shoes. We walked the length of Canal Street Downtown all the way to the Ferry on the river.

Creative Calling Cards: New Orleans Quotes
In an attempt to control the rampant prostitution in New Orleans in the early 1900′s, the City Council legalized prostitution in 1898 in a 38-block area of the French Corner. Dubbed, “Storyville,” after the council member who proposed the idea; the area remained a red light district until 1917. Photographer E.J. Bellocq, secretly documented the prostitutes in Storyville and later published them in a book "E.J. Bellocq Storyville Portraits".

Prostitutes Portraits From The Dark Side Of 1900's New Orleans Photographer John Ernest Joseph Bellocq
Vintage Ladies of the Night: New Orleans Red Light District, 1912 [NSFW] 1:00 pm Thursday Oct 20, 2011 by Marina Galperina Before Storyville of New Orleans shut down in 1917, it was the only legalized red-light district in North America, and French photographer John Ernest Joseph Bellocq took portraits inside of these storied brothels. The sensual, almost haunting shots were incredibly revealing and varied, from the naughty maiden posed playfully on a sofa wearing nothing but a Zorro mask to the awkward poses of the hesitant sitters, the clutching of their hands, the downward, escaping gazes.
Vintage photos “John Bellocq (1873 – 1949) was an American professional photographer who worked in New Orleans during the early 20th century. Bellocq is remembered for his haunting photographs of the prostitutes of Storyville, New Orleans’ legalized red light district.” - Wikipedia
