Ideas for vegetable garden. Repurposed raised bed garden ideas
This veggie garden idea is way cuter then a wooden raised bed!
Raised Bed Gardening. I love this layout. The stones creat a pathway through the garden. Climbing plants can be planted along the trellis. Flowers can be planted along the path. Herbs and veggies can be planted in the raised garden beds, and are protected from little critters eating them before you do! #herb #garden #ideas

How to grow ginger. I never knew it was this easy!
1 Buy fresh ginger roots at a grocery store or an Asian market. Look for fat tubers with numerous buds. 2 Plant ginger in spring when you can supply warm enough temperatures, whether indoors or out. The dormant tubers will sprout only when the mercury hits 75 to 85 degrees F. 3 Use a container that's about 14 inches across and 12 inches deep and has excellent drainage. This size will hold three average-size tubers comfortably. 4 Fill the container with potting soil enriched with plenty of ...

French Garden Layout - Although the traditional vegetable garden layout is for the vegetables to be set out in long rows, your garden need not follow these traditions. I have chosen, like many other home gardeners, to use raised vegetable garden beds where the vegetables can be planted in blocks rather than rows. But you don't even need to be limited to these two options. There are many more creative layouts, as the vegetable garden plans featured on this page will show. Don't feel as though you have to have a dedicated vegetable garden either. If your yard is small (or even if it isn't), you could plant vegetables in your flower bed or flowers in your vegetable bed. Alternatively you may chooses to grow your vegetables in pots. One way to layout your kitchen garden is a potager garden, which is a beautiful ornamental vegetable garden where vegetables, herbs and flowers are chosen according to their aesthetic value as well as their edible value and are mixed together in one or more vegetable garden beds. Take a look at these vegetable garden layout ideas and see if you get any ideas for your own vegetable garden plans this Spring.

Guide to Growing Lettuces #edible #vegetable #gardening
Guide to Growing Lettuces #outdoors #gardening #lettuce
Lettuces Growing Guide (Lettuce sometimes bolts/seed prematurely, a condition often caused by dry growing conditions & by the check of transplanting esp. if the roots are broken. Lettuces are ready for gathering as soon as the heart is nicely solid. Once growth begins to push up from the centre, is a sign the plants are beginning to run to seed and should therefore be moved as soon as possible. If it is not possible to use them immediately they can be pulled up completely with roots and placed in a cool, shaded position in vessels of very shallow water. The majority of best modern varieties of cos lettuces are self-folding & need no help by tying. Even so, during spells of dry weather they may not heart up well, and it is a good plan to give a light tying with raffia, soft string, or to use a rubber band although the latter sometimes cut into the leaves rather badly.

hanging strawberry garden; grow strawberries from elevated rain gutters.
What a great idea ~ Google "growing strawberries in rain gutter" to see sights with directions ~ this is just a photo, but I LOVE the idea! (seeing this gave me an idea of how to use the space in my backyard for gardening that I can't put plants directly on.)
Gutter berries! Here's an interesting way to grow strawberries, fill an old rain gutter with soil, plant the berries & harvest them as the overhang. Much easier than crawling through Rows of berries on the ground and you won't need straw between the rows! More Gardening Ideas here: http://www.budget101.com/frugal/gardening-landscaping-208/

bonus idea: Recycled rain gutters = elevated strawberry planters. (a) Reminds me of that song: "I'm in heaven, this is heaven..." Yumm... (b) Growing strawberries a couple feet off the ground keeps them safe from slugs snails (which will love to munch on 'em if given the opportunity)

wine bottle lanterns. Like this idea better than tiki torches!!
LOVE this idea for a backyard! All you need is some old wine bottles and about $4 worth of parts from your local hardware store! An adjustment I'd make: Fill the bottom of the wine bottle (about halfway up) with tiny pebbles or glass beads or marbles - then you don't need as long of a wick or as much tiki torch oil! Loving this idea...

#16 There will definitely be a few tomato plants in the yard. As per this article, they require a lot of sun, so once the trees get big I may have to move them to the front yard or something, but I will always have tomato plants! For now, I'm planning on putting them along the left side of the fence in the back. "Growing Tomatoes - Linked to Incurable Gardening Addiction."

Espalier Fruit Trees for our orchard. Espalier = the horticultural and ancient agricultural practice of controlling woody plant growth originally for the production of fruit,by pruning and tying branches to a frame so that they grow into a flat plane, frequently in formal patterns, against a structure such as a wall, fence, or trellis.Good for apples and pears. Grapes can be planted and trained in -between taking advantage of the same structure.
