Bimini & Orplid glass are linked by one man, Fritz Lampl, an Austrian, born in Vienna in 1892.  By Nov. 1938 Lampl had his certificate from the national Register of Industrial Art Designers in England.  Between 1938 & 1940 the glassblowing venture was launched in a workshop in Soho, London.  In 1940 his workshop had been flattened by enemy bombing.  He started up again and made glass buttons named Orplids.  Some were blown glass and some were pressed, he used plaster casts of Roman coins.
