‪I admittedly and embarrassingly was that selfish person that didn’t think much about #foodallergies. My thoughts consisted of “oh, that person is allergic to ______? That’s too bad”. And then she found out her daughter is allergic to peanuts

Day 17 of Food Allergy Awareness Month. Death from anaphylaxis can occur in as little as 15 minutes without treatment. Most severe reactions occur within seconds or minutes upon exposure to an allergen. But sometimes, anaphylaxis can be delayed. Once the body starts to undergo a severe reaction, though, there is only one first line defense against anaphylaxis: epinephrine. Epinephrine first, epinephrine fast.

Max lives in Colombia. He is allergic to milk and wears #redsneakersforoakley. He and his family have learned to live with his food allergy, but without the help of any formal support groups in Colombia, nor much information in Spanish. Wouldn’t Max make a great ambassador for RSFO? Swipe left to see one of our flyers in Spanish. Post from @sinlecheparamax: Max prefiere los guayos #redsneakersforoakley #foodallergy #nomilk #nopeanuts #alergiasalimentarias #internationalredsneakersday

Oakley helped someone’s son again yesterday. Cassie sent us this message: Our son Jason got into some food that isn’t safe today. We immediately gave him the epipen and called 911. He rode in the ambulance and was monitored by the E.R. staff for 4 hours. We are finally home and so thankful for Red Sneakers for Oakley and the hard work that you do to bring awareness and education. Thank you! Lightfritz family

Day 16 of Food Allergy Awareness Month. How do you explain to a child why any kind of disease can kill a person? Because food allergies can be deadly. If your child has food allergies, you obviously want to reassure them that with the proper protocols, they can be safe. If your child doesn't have food allergies, teach them empathy and kindness to people with food allergies. This and more graphics can be found on our website at https://www.redsneakers.org/awareness. When is there a risk of an Airborne Food Allergy Reaction? The likelihood of a reaction to air exposures would depend on two things. First, it depends upon how much protein gets into the air and onto or into the person with an allergy. Second, the resulting reaction, if any, depends on the individual’s sensitivity and whether the person has asthma
