"The Black Stallion" by Walter Farley. Even though i did not read it to them we listened to the audio book together and had fun discussions rehashing the scenes that we had heard on whatever commute gave us the opportunity to hear more.
My question is...why hasn't this series ever been sold as a boxed collection? I just discovered the series was continued by the author's son or sons. My favorite books when I was a girl.
"The Black Stallion" by Walter Farley - I so wanted to be Alec living on the island with The Black. That was my favourite part of the book. Read a lot of the books in the series and loved them all.

We Need To Talk About Kevin - Lionel Shriver. One of my absolute favourite books. Happily, the film is rather good too.
Eva never really wanted to be a mother; certainly not the mother of the unlovable boy who murdered seven of his fellow high school students,...but why is he that way? Was he born evil, or was his upbringing to blame? A book which inspires fierce debate on 'nature vs nurture'
Impressive! And now I can watch the movie. Eva never really wanted to be a mother; certainly not the mother of the unlovable boy who murdered seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker and a teacher who tried to befriend him. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood and Kevin's horrific rampage in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her absent husband, Franklyn.
We Need to Talk about Kevin....I just chose this for book club.

Cider house rules / John Irving / Set in rural Maine in the first half of this century, it tells the story of Dr. Wilbur Larch--saint and obstetrician, founder and director of the orphanage in the town of St. Cloud's, ether addict and abortionist. It is also the story of Dr. Larch's favorite orphan, Homer Wells, who is never adopted.
The Cider House Rules by John Irving (24h11m) #Audible #FirstLine: "In the hospital of the orphanage--the boys' division at St. Cloud's, Maine--two nurses were in charge of naming the new babies and checking that their little penises were healing from the obligatory circumcision."
The Cider House Rules — John Irving. I always hope that I can choose books that will make me more aware, more compassionate, and more in touch with the goings on in the real world. Sure I read to escape but not into fantasy, into a deeper integration with what really is. This book is excellent. Thanks Mr. Irving.

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is definitely one of the best classic novels read in high schools. Although the novel is based on two gangs of boys, “greasers” and the “Socs” it is a great read for both male and female audiences, as it is relatable to the young adult audience and holds strong messages in the themes such as, friendship, love, and loss. (Francesca)
From blog post titled 'S.E Hinton’s ‘The Outsiders’ and Why We Don’t Stay Gold': "‘Stay gold Ponyboy,’ says Johnny before he dies. It is a line from S. E. Hinton’s seminal Young Adult book The Outsiders that has entrenched itself in our culture. It is about not losing all of our innocence and it may seem hopelessly melodramatic, but as Hinton says herself, it works, ‘because kids feel that way.’"
The Outsiders - Back in high school, I was Ponyboy. This book spoke to me in so many ways; it is honest, true, and has many great applicable morals. Definitely top notch. Stay gold, Ponyboy.
The Outsiders. One of my all time favorite books as a young girl. I cried when I finished reading it because it was over.
The Outsiders - I remember reading this in school then watching the movie. One of my favorite books, ever...Stay gold.
(*One of my all time favorite books. I was about 13 or 14 when I first read this book and I could swear that the author followed me around my whole life and wrote down everything I'd ever felt. It made a powerful impact on me. I related to so many of the characters, I felt they were my friends.Stay gold,Ponyboy, stay gold._LL)
Outsiders, The By: Susan E. Hinton Lost References: In the flashback scene in the van, Hurley's friend Johnny says to him, "Stay gold, Ponyboy." This is a quote from the Outsiders, which is itself a reference to the Robert Frost poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay". In the novel, Johnny Cade's last words are "Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold." ("Everybody Hates Hugo")

Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay - This is one of my favorite books so far. It was incredibly sad to read but really good too. It's one of those books that sticks with you.
Sarah's Key- amazing book but incredibly sad... and they're making it into a movie although I can't say I'll see it in the theater's due to amount of tears I'll shed!
Such an amazing book. Sarahs Key - She closed the door on the little white face, turned the key in the lock. Then she slipped the key into her pocket. The lock was hidden by a pivoting device shaped like a light switch. It was impossible to see the outline of the cupboard in the paneling of the wall. Yes, he’d be safe there. She was sure of it. The girl murmured his name and laid her palm flat on the wooden panel. “I’ll come back for you later. I promise.” -From Sarah’s Key, page 9-

Jaws - Peter Benchley. The classic, blockbuster thriller of man-eating terror that inspired the Steven Spielberg movie and made millions of beachgoers afraid to go into the water. Experience the thrill of helpless horror again -- or for the first time!
“The fish was an enemy. It had come upon the community and killed two men, a woman, and a child. The people of Amity would demand the death of the fish. They would need to see it dead before they could feel secure enough to resume their normal lives.” ― Peter Benchley, Jaws
Peter Benchley's novel "Jaws" ...I read the book first, and saw the movie much later on TV. I had a "Jaws" t-shirt in 6th grade that I wore all the time when the movie first came out. If I had actually seen the movie I never would have gone to the beach again!
Peter Benchley's novel "Jaws" was the first novel I ever read; I was five years old. It changed my life.

The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, To Kill A Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. Jane Eyre! Most really hated this book when we had to read it in hs, but to this day, it is one of my all time favorite books <3
Favorite book. Jane Eyre is a gothic novel written by Charlotte Bronte (1847) full of dark mystery, romance, and a reflection upon the author's life. Oliver Twist has nothing on Jane Eyre; sorry Dickens.
Jane Eyre had a huge impact on me. It's a book that I could read a million times, and every single time, I could find something new. Rochester is one of my all time favorite literary characters. I always loved the setup of the story -- seeing her childhood and then jumping to adulthood. Which, of course, I did in my own book. Thanks Charlotte Bronte.
