The annual war of 1812 re-enactment took place today in Wasaga Beach.

Watch out! Enemy forces are once again planning to attack Wasaga Beach! Join us in commemorating the 1814 sinking of the H.M.S. Nancy in the Nottawasaga River at Nancy Island Historic Site Saturday, August 15, 10.00am until 6.00pm and Sunday August 16, 10.00am until 4.00pm. For two days, re-enactors will transport you back to the War of 1812 through musket, cannon, and 3 line firing demonstrations, Native drumming and storytelling. We spotted a pair of piping plovers on Saturday. Unfortunately, they seem to be ignoring the large protected area near the mouth of the river, and looked ready to nest smack in the middle of the busiest part of the beach. That promises to be a challenge for park staff and volunteers who in recent years have been fencing off areas around the nesting pairs.
