God wants each of us to have an intimate relationship with him. Adoring and receiving Him in the Eucharist is the best way to grow that relationship. In order to help your family enter into a better understanding of the Real Presence, OSV Kids has produced a special issue centered on the Eucharist. This issue offers great conversation starters on the Real Presence and helps us understand the source and summit of our Catholic faith. Look for more information about this special issue!

Happy Birthday, Pope Saint John Paul II! St. John Paul II had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. Every day he prayed all the mysteries of the Rosary. He even created what was then a new set of mysteries, known as the Luminous Mysteries. John Paul II taught the faithful that through Mary and the Rosary we come to know Jesus better. His example inspired many people, including Pope Francis!

After Mass, review with your family what you heard in the Gospel. Then use the questions below to start a conversation! John 13:31-33, 34-35: In saying goodbye to his friends during the Last Supper, Jesus tells them how he will still be with them: in their love for one another. He tells them simply, but with a challenge, that people will know they are his disciples by their love for one another. When is it easy for you to love another person? When is it difficult?

The month of May is a great time to teach little about the Rosary. Rosaries are powerful tools for prayer. Battles have been won because people prayed the Rosary! There have been hearts converted, and impossible intentions answered, too. Your life can only be blessed if you start praying the Rosary. Holy Ghost
It's easy for the sign of the cross to become muscle memory and forget WHY we do it. Catholics use the sign of the cross daily in Mass and prayer. When using the sign of the cross we align our hearts in such a posture that we are invoking and interceding before the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We are connecting with the Holy Trinity outwardly and inwardly in our souls.

While May is the month we celebrate Mary, we also take time to remember St. Joseph's important role in the Holy Family. St. Joseph worked hard to give Mary and Jesus all they needed, and God looked with favor on his work. When we work hard using the gifts God gave us, we can serve God, too. Draw a picture or write a note to thank someone in your life who works hard to make sure you have everything you need.

What can we learn from St. Catherine of Siena? She was a courageous, influential woman who spoke her mind during a time when many people perhaps ignored her. She dedicated her life to serving the poor, supporting women, and improving the Church. “Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear.” – St Catherine of Siena

As we approach May, the month of Mothers, St. Gianna is a great reminder of the endless sacrifices that mothers make. St. Gianna Molla was an Italian mother and doctor whose sacrificial love spared the life of her fourth baby. Today, encourage your child to show love through sacrifice, much like parents do everyday!

Today we celebrate the memorial of St. George. Here's a rhyme from Meghan Bausch about St. George to share with your kids today: St. George, the mighty soldier And faithful Christian too, Was martyred for defending God And all the Church holds true. Though George is often pictured as A dragon-slaying knight, The dragon is meant to represent the evils we must fight.

Neon Signs
On Good Friday, we mourn the death of Jesus on the cross. We call it "good" because, through his suffering, Jesus overcame the power of sin and death to save us. A meaningful (also cheap and easy) activity you can try today is to have your children write a letter thanking Jesus for his great love for us.

We Remember
On Holy Thursday, we remember how Jesus gave himself to us in the Eucharist for the first time. An easy way to observe this day with your family is to turn tonight's supper into the Last Supper. Simply pull out some candles (it's ok if they are the scented kind) and eat dinner in the candlelight. Read the account of the Last Supper in Luke 22, and if your kids are up for it, try washing each other's feet as an act of sacrifice.
