Arlington, Texas, Public Art

Public art exists in abundance in Arlington, a city that sprawls across almost a hundred square miles with a population of about 400,000. Examples include massive granite sculptures, murals that cover entire walls of buildings, historical statues and a fair share of whimsical creations. This board provides the names of those works, along with the artist's name and the location of the art. For clarification purposes here, public art must be accessible without cost. Enjoy!

What may well be Texas' largest kaleidoscope, titled "Make My Day," was installed in the Meadowbrook Park Sculpture Garden (East Collins and Willis streets) in October 2020. The artists are Eddie and Mary Phillips. The project was privately funded. Meadowbrook is the city's oldest park, created 95 years ago.
The Arlington Rotatary Club (downtown) celebrated its 100th birthday in the city in 2023, commenorating the event by donating this interactive Jen Lewis sculpture, "Boundless," to a new downtown park (Center and Front streets). The sculpture interacts both with colors and sounds to viewers. The small park will also eventually include the "Dream" sculpture (photo by Jen Lewis Studio).

It's actually two obelisks, though from a distance they appear as one. It's located outside the Lydle Ridge Apartments (62 or older) at 2301 Little Road at the intersection with Arkansas Lane.

Depending on your perspective, this mural by artist Juan Velazquez is either the most violent or most humorous (or both) in Arlington. It depicts an altercation between Texas Rangers infielder Rougned Odor and Toronto Blue Jays player Jose Bautista at a May 2016 game, in which Odor took offense at what he considered an overly aggressive attempt to break up a double play. See it at Gilberto's Taco Shop, 611 W. Park Row (north side of street facing west).
