Everything I Never Told You: A Novel (Alex Awards (Awards)) by Celeste Ng, www.amazon.com/...
Worth Reading, Books Club, Books Worth, Told, Celest Ng, Reading Lists, I'M, Chinese American, Debut Novels
CATHY LANGER (LEAD BUYER) RECOMMENDS: This powerful debut literary thriller looks at the conflict between the hoped for American Dream and the social isolation that was the reality of a mixed Caucasian Chinese American family in 1970’s Ohio. Every book club should put this on their reading list. And everyone else should read it, too.
Everything I Never Told You - Celeste Ng. So this is MY cover! And I'm thrilled to say I do love it--the team at Penguin press did a great job. The little slips of paper tie into the plot of the book (the torn-up letter, the notebook) and evokes the sense of pieceing together a mystery.

The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace
Celeste Ng's compelling debut novel, Everything I Never Told You, is set in 1977, a time when races in America tended to be categorized as "black," "white" and "other." The Lee family — Chinese-American father, white mother and mixed-race kids — falls distinctly under "other." And while existing outside the black/white racial tension might seem nice, it has allowed the Lees to avoid asking difficult questions about who they are and how they fit in to their small Ohio town.

Remembering The 'Short And Tragic Life Of Robert Peace'
The Book Thief is the story of Liesel Meminger. Liesel is almost ten when she ends up in Molching with Hans and Rosa Hubermann, her new foster parents. It is 1939. In Nazi Germany. Through their eyes we see Hitler and Nazi Germany; we experience the atrocities and the small kindnesses. Zusak’s story is mostly about everyday things: hunger, pettiness, laughter, hope, cruelty and kindness. Loved it.
Storytelling at its best.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Sophomore Title Choice. Trying to make sense of the horrors of World War II, Death relates the story of Liesel: a young German girl whose book-stealing and story-telling talents help sustain her family and the Jewish man they are hiding, as well as their neighbors.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: the heart-breaking and profound tale of Nazi Germany told through the eyes of a young girl and narrated by Death.
YOUNG ADULT PICK! The Book Thief / Markus Zusak ~ It's just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . .
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This is a story about a girl in WWII Germany who steals books before they can be burned and shares them with her neighbors and a Jewish man who is hidden in her basement. The story is narrated by Death and is appropriately dark, but manages to be uplifting at the same time. This is in my top 5 books of all time. It changed the way I viewed things; just like every good book I read.

The House at Sugar Beach: In Search of a Lost African Childhood by Helene Cooper, Probably the best book I've read in my entire life. http://www.amazon.com/dp/0743266242/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_ymlDpb0G1PZE8
From living in a world of privilege and prestige in Liberia to becoming a prominent journalist for the New York Times, Helene Cooper's memoir relays the story of her returning to a war-torn country and her quest to find the foster sister that her family left behind. A worth-while, affecting memoir.

Met him, loved him, loved this book. Rules of Civility - A novel - by Amor Towles #rulesofcivility #amortowles #NYCinthe30s
Rules of Civility by Amor Towles New York in 1938 is the setting for Katey Content's rise from a Wall Street secretarial pool to the publishing world. As the story unfolds her relationships along the way add intrigue and drama. A good novel to "escape" back into a different time and it was very clever how the author tied George Washington's Rules of Civility into the storyline. Definitely worth reading.
Amor Towles Seriously, a book WORTH reading, enjoy!
Rules Of Civility: Things aren't what they seem in this debut novel by Amor Towles. Great pick for a book club discussion.
