The Beaufort Portcullis, icon of Henry VII and his Tudor descendants. Margaret Beaufort, his mother, was a descendant of the Duke of Lancaster, John of Gaunt. Gaunt was the son of king Edward III, thus Henry Tudor had Royal blood which strengthened his claim on the throne.

The Dacre heraldic beasts are unique national survivors of free standing large-scale wooden heraldic sculpture from the English Renaissance. They are also of considerable regional interest as they represent one of the most powerful families in Northern England. Theys demonstrate the primitive nature of British art in the early 16th century before the the Italian Renaissance.
