I have always loved getting "snail mail". I remember mail call in USAF Basic Training. All my friends started college in August, but I was on delayed enlistment, so while I'd raised my right hand before I'd graduated high school, I didn't have a reporting date until November. I'd written so many letters to my college friends, using different colors of ink, various papers, cards, what not -- and they reciprocated in spades. I was the only Airman who was SURE to get at least one if not three letters every day. Not only would I get letters and cards, but tons of comic strips and funny stuff cut out of the newspaper (remember those, newspapers?). My friends knew there were dozens of other recruits huddled on the floor of the break room during Mail Call, waiting for their names to be shouted, only to be disappointed time after time. So they sent me things I could pass around and share. I'd let someone keep a fun note or comic or pretty card at the end of the day, and I often wonder if those people still have them. The lesson in all of this -- don't forget to mail a card or a letter to a friend or loved on. After they recover from the shock of not having junk mail or bills, I know they'll be touched. After all, it takes time to pick out just the right card, pick up a pen, and find a stamp. But not THAT much time. To get you going, here are some awesome Etsy card sellers! Perhaps your awkward haircuts and awkward poses weren't funny then, but they certainly are now. These tech ads make you feel the same way. The gadgets are clunky, the text is cheesy, and the graphics are so 80s.
