[Love this!] July 29, 1925. Harry Warnecke, a photographer for the NY News, got a phone tip that a cat trying to carry its kittens home was tying up traffic because a policeman had stopped the cars on a busy street (Centre Street) to allow it to cross. When the picture ran, the NY News was besieged with letters and requests for prints. Few days later, the helpful policeman received a letter of commendation from the Police Commissioner.

The first Ferris wheel. Chicago World's Fair, 1893
George Washington, 1893 Chicago, Eiffel Towers, Amusement Parks, Ferris Wheels, The Originals, Amusementparks, Columbian Exposit, White Cities
The original, and very first Ferris Wheel premiered at The World's Fair: Columbian Exposition. This was a World's Fair held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492. I just finished reading a book about this (The Devil In the White City, by Erik Larson), so I'm frolicing in seeing more photos of the Fair right now.
White City (amusement parks) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The original Ferris Wheel, built by by George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr., sometimes also referred to as the Chicago Wheel, was the late coming, unexpected centerpiece of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Intended to rival the 1889 Paris Exposition’s 1,063 ft Eiffel Tower, the Ferris Wheel was the Columbian Exposition’s largest attraction, with a height of 264 ft.
George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. (born on February 14, 1859–November 22, 1896) was an American engineer. He is mostly known for creating the original Ferris Wheel for the 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition.
Waiting to see the movie 'Gone With The Wind'. Ticket prices in 1939 were five cents for the matinee and ten cents for an evening performance. From December 1939 to July 1940, the film played only advance-ticket road show engagements at a limited number of theaters at prices upwards of $1—more than double the price of a regular first-run feature.
