    couch to 5k. gets you off your bum and being a couch potato, to getting outdoors (or treadmill) and running for half an hour in just a couple of months. i have downloaded the ap on my iphone (there are a few to choose from), it has a 5 min warm up and cool down at the beginning and end, and alerts you every time you need to start running or change to walking so there is no need for you to keep looking at your watch. also lets you know when you’re half way through your workout. i highly recommend this program if you want to start getting more active. interval training is one of the best things you can do for yourself to help with your weight loss goals.

C25K - this is what I've been doing (at my own pace) for the past 4 months and I've lost 30 lbs and I now consider myself a runner! Not bad for a girl who didn't even run when she was a kid in school!

I've always wanted to try this, BUT... To begin, they assume that you can already jog 2 minutes. Ha!

    Just "jog" very slowly, more like a slow dance. A fast jog is really bad on your knees so "jog" as if you are dancing to your best tune.

Work up to running a 5k! This is great! I thought my heart would explode if I just tried to get back into long distance running without some conditioning.

Couch to 5k plan: I found the treadmill version on c25k.com, so I'll be doing that at school... it's just too cold out...
