Dennis Stock Photography. USA. New York City. 1955. James DEAN haunted Times Square. For a novice actor in the fifties this was the place to go. The Actors Studio, directed by Lee STRASBERG, was in its heyday and just a block away. #photo #photography #celebrites #JamesDean #NYC #TimesSquare #DennisStock
James Dean. Times Square, New York City, 1955. Photograph by Dennis Stock. - This was a famous photograph of James Dean, he was little known then. The composition of the photograph is interesting, BW and the reflection of the body against the black pavement in the rain. I love reflections!

Dennis Stock - New York City. 1955. Dean James Dean @ Times Square... Stock titled it at first " On Times Square" later , renamed it "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"
In 1955, the same year he’d die in a horrible collision on a California highway, James Dean walks through Times Square on a rainy day. Dennis Stock’s photo is illustrative of the actor’s persona — a true rebel don’t need no umbrella — but also quietly speaks to Dean’s professional roots (in New York, where he studied at the Actors Studio) and his legacy (see the long shadow stretched across the slick street).

James Dean by Sanford Roth (1955) Despite only making a few films, East of Eden, Giant, Rebel Without a Cause, prior to his death in 1955, in 1999, the American Film Institute ranked him the 18th best male movie star of Golden Age Hollywood in AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars list.
The lighting is dramatic, I like his expression and the shadows dropped on his face.. James Dean photographed by Sanford Roth, 1955.

Young James Dean went on to become to embody the rebellious teen in the 1950s. Having made his mark in such great films as "Rebel without a Cause" and "Giant," James Dean died tragically when his Porsche crashed on September 30, 1955. He was only 24 years old.
Young James Dean (age 7-8?) crazy how adorable he was even then! (this, is from board called Indiana girls should love James Dean period). agreed!
Young James Dean 1930's - James Byron Dean (February 8, 1931 – September 30, 1955) was born to Winton Dean and Mildred Wilson Dean in Marion, Indiana. He was enrolled in Brentwood Public School until his mother died of cancer in 1940.Unable to care for his nine year old son, Winton Dean sent the young James to live with Winton's sister Ortense and her husband Marcus Winslow on a farm in Fairmount, Indiana and was brought up with a Quaker background.

Young James Dean (age 7-8?)....awwwww
James Byron Dean (February 8, 1931 – September 30, 1955) James Dean was born to Winton Dean and Mildred Wilson Dean at the "Seven Gables" apartment house, at the intersection of 4th and McClure Streets in Marion, Indiana. Six years after his father had left farming to become a dental technician, James and his family moved to Santa Monica, California. The family spent some years there, and by all accounts young Jimmy was very close to his mother. According to Michael DeAngelis, she was "the only person capable of understanding him". He was enrolled in Brentwood Public School until his mother died of cancer in 1940.Unable to care for his nine year old son, Winton Dean sent the young James to live with Winton's sister Ortense and her husband Marcus Winslow on a farm in Fairmount, Indiana, where he entered high school and was brought up with a Quaker background. Today would have been the 80th Birthday of the beloved great young actor who graced us on screen for such a short period of time, but forever remained in are hearts and memories, practically created a subculture, defined a generation as well as influenced the world and changed pop culture. James Dean. James Byron Dean February 8, 1931 - September 30, 1955 James in 1938 With Actress Natalie Wood in "Rebel Without a Cause" On the set of the film "Giant" James with his Siamese Kitten Curtis Curtis was given to him by friend, Actress Elizabeth Taylor. The day before he died he gave Curtis away, to go to a car rally. He once said before something like, "I'm afraid one day I won't come home and he'll be here waiting for me". How tragic. Favorite Photos of James Cigarettes, Cameras, Glasses Morrissey is an absolutely aficionado of James Dean. His debut solo single "Suedehead", was written about James Dean, with a lovely music video tribute in James' hometown. In the video he actually gets to straddle James' motorcycle and "play" his bongos. Rest in peace James, we will always love you James Dean Inspired Outfit My outfit for today inspired by his iconic look as "Jim Stark" in "Rebel Without a Cause". James Dean.. Only made three movies, "Rebel Without a Cause", "East of Eden" and "Giant"', died age 24. Yet, he's still an icon!
Unfortunately James Dean only made three movies, 'Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden & Giant. He died at age 24. Posthumously, he rose to iconic acting status & his films are all memorable. . .
James Dean - One of the most iconic men of the 1950's especially when it comes to his style.
James Dean, New York, 1955. Oh there's something 'bout a man in black.
James Dean is a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment and social estrangement, as expressed in the title of his most celebrated film, "Rebel Without A Cause" 1955, in which he starred as a troubled teenager. The other two roles that defined his stardom were "East Of Eden" 1955 and "Giant" 1956. Dean's enduring fame and popularity rest on his performances in only these three films. Dean's premature death in a car crash cemented his legendary status. He became the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and remains the only actor to have had two posthumous acting nominations. In 1999 the American Film Institute ranked him the 18th best male movie star of golden age hollywood in AFI's 100 years..100 people.

I'm astonished how many people think this photo of James Dean and Marlon Brando is real. It's not. It's been Photoshopped from Marlon Brando kissing a cat (http://missexlibris.tumblr.com/post/26745788213/brando-kitty) and James Dean kissing Julie Harris in East of Eden (http://greatestkisses.tumblr.com/post/8764900454/james-dean-and-julie-harris).
I don't know when or why James Dean and Marlon Brando kissed, but I am so happy someone photographed it.
