Irena Sendler 1910-2008 A 98 year-old Polish woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Irena smuggled Jewish children out; infants in the bottom of the tool box she carried and older children in a burlap sack she carried in the back of her truck. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers wanted nothing to do with the dog---face of…
During WWII Myrna Loy abandoned her acting career to focus on the war effort and worked closely with the Red Cross. She toured frequently to raise war bonds, and was so outspokenly against Adolf Hitler that her name appeared on his blacklist. What an honor! lol
~ Buffalo Calf Road Woman (1850s-1878), ~ was a Northern Cheyenne woman who saved her wounded warrior brother Chief Comes in Sight, in the Battle of Rosebud (as it was called by the US) in 1876. She fought next to her husband in the Battle of the Little Bighorn that same year. In 2005 Northern Cheyenne storytellers broke more than 100 years of silence about the battle, and they credited her with striking the blow that knocked General George Armstrong Custer off his horse before he died. ~
Beautiful and inspiring!! Audrey Hepburn spent many years in Africa helping the helpless. Yet all the pictures on Tumblr show her as a fashion icon. Fashion passes in a wink, compassion lasts forever. She’s beautiful
Irena Sendler got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumber. She courageously smuggled babies in her tool box and carried larger children in her sack. She also trained her dog to bark when the Nazi soldiers were near, which muffled the sounds of the crying children. She helped save more than 2,500 children & was eventually caught & tortured. Sendler was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize along with Al Gore, who won for his presentation on global warming...but she is a HERO!
