The Nordlandshest/Lyngshest is a very old breed. They were used by the Vikings, were a main part of the breeding stock that made up the Icelandic horse, and still share many similarities. They may be a descendant of the Asiatic Wild Horse and the Tarpan, from which the Baltic pony or Konik, and the Shetland pony and Exmoor pony also derived.

The Kathiawari Horse is a rare horse indigenous to India. It is so rare that the Gujarat government has taken over the breeding farms. The Kathiawari is known for having the most curved ears of any horse, even more than the Marwari Horse. Though the two breeds are similar, the Kathiawari has a more dished profile (passed on from its Arabian ancestors) whereas the Marwari has a more straight profile.

During colonial times, the Marsh Tacky had developed as a distinct type of horse and was used for transportation, farming and hunting. Murgese breed was developed from horses selected in 1926, when the herdbook was established, and is possibly a more refined version of the original Murgese horse. Until selection began in 1926 there were very diverse physical characteristics within the breed due to lack of breeding regulations. The original horses selected to revitalize the Murgese breed were a group of 46 mares and 9 stallions.

The Tiger Horse: is a modern day breed founded on the genes of extinct horses that once grazed at the foot of the Heavenly Mountains, on the Chinese/Siberian border. Known as the " Heavenly Horses".

The Sorraia Horse is said to be the direct descendant of the wild Iberian horse but only 200 head currently remain living in South Iberia.

Ban'ei is a draft breed from Japan. It's not actually used as a draft but for ban'ei racing, which is about pulling heavy sleds up the sand ramps. Ban'ei horse is developed for that sport by crossing Percherons, Bretons and Brabants. Today ban'ei racing is quite rare, races are held only at one racecourse. I suppose that this means also rarity of Ban'ei horses as there are no other use for them, expect for occasional meat production.
