Gorges de l'Areuse, Switzerland The Val de Travers is a Jura mountain valley perpendicular to the main valleys (hence the name). The river Areuse has cut itself steeply through the soft limestone and clay sediments.
Areuse Gorge, Switzerland. The small Areuse River thunders through the Areuse Gorge between Noiraigue and Boudry. A challenging hiking trail allows you to contemplate the natural site from up close. The nearby castle of Boudry nestled in the vineyards has been turned into a wine museum.
