Rainbow Eucalyptus trees on Maui, Hawaii The phenomenon is caused by patches of bark peeling off at various times and the colors are indicators of age. A newly shed outer bark reveals bright greens which darken over time into blues and purples and then orange and red tones. These are my painted trees!
Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees, Maui, Hawaii, USA--There is a small forest of these trees off the Hana Highway. As the outer bark naturally sheds it leaves strips of green inner bark exposed and as it grows the inner bark turns bluish, orange, purple and maroon. Saw those, but not all the beautiful colors
