‘non-sign II’ is an installation by seattle based art collective lead pencil studio located at the Canada-US border near Vancouver. The sculpture is made from small stainless steel rods that are assembled together to create the negative space of a billboard.
Created by Cameroon-born artist Pascale Marthine Tayou, the Reverse City art installation may seem like a simple and playful art project, but it holds more meaning than the writing tools initially symbolize. On each color pencil, the name of a country is etched into it, making Reverse City a colorful index of the world. More than that, viewers standing beneath it will feel both awed and threatened by the sharp points staring down at them.
