Hike Appalachian Trail from beginning to end. My brother is going to beat me to this one, but that's ok...he can educate me on what not to do. Ha! The Appalachian Trail is one of the longest continuously marked footpaths in the world, measuring roughly 2,180 miles in length. The Trail goes through fourteen states along the crests and valleys of the Appalachian mountain range from the southern terminus at Springer Mountain, Georgia, to the Trail’s northern terminus at Katahdin, Maine.
About 30 years ago, after hiking a tiny bit of the AT with my family (brothers & parents) in Shenandoah Nat'l Park I said I would hike the whole thing before I turn 60. Hiked a bit with my current family this week, met Mama Boots, a girl scout who has done the whole thing "in Bits & Pieces" three times, and now I'm thinking about it again. Still have 18 years to do it
Thru hike the entire Appalachian Trail. "THRU HIKING A thru-hiker is a hiker or backpacker who has completed or is attempting to walk the entire Appalachian Trail in one uninterrupted journey. Completing the entire estimated 2,180 miles of the Appalachian Trail in one trip is a mammoth undertaking. Each year, thousands of hikers attempt a thru-hike; only about one in four make it all the way." (image from www.readymade.com... )
