Escher was born in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, son of an engineer and so grew between drawings and sketches. Graduated from the School of Architecture and Decorative Arts from the Dutch city of Haarlem, dedicated his life to the challenge of creating images that instigassem the observer, whether in the form of drawings, sketches and lithographs of buildings. The artist died in 1972, aged 74. http://didotdesign.com.br/didot_blog/?p=1869
This shows Escher's ability to distort the perspective plane to his will, ultimately giving the world a twisting bloated appearance. I think art is most impressive as illusion or as introspective meta-philosophical work that questions paradigms of the viewer.
