Could people talk about books with the same timely intensity that they do the latest episode of “Mad Men” or “Top Chef”? Novelist Mark Z. Danielewski plans to test that question with his next work, a 27-volume novel titled “The Familiar.” The novel will be released on a rapid timeline almost unheard-of in the publishing industry: one volume every three months, beginning in 2014.
