    Mary Fields, aka Stagecoach Mary, put the wild in the Wild West. During the late 1800s, she was reportedly one of the toughest characters in the Northern Rockies of Montana. A crack shot, the 6-foot-2-inch, 200-pound Fields wore a .38 Smith & Wesson strapped under her apron. She drove the U.S. mail route between St. Peter's Mission and the town of Cascade, Mont., for eight years -- by stagecoach -- dressed in a man's hat and coat.

    Grand Duchess Anastasia, 1907. Once, when the Grand Duchesses were swimming with their father in the Crimea, little Anastasia (then five) was sucked under water by a wave. When she did not resurface, Nicholas dove into the water and managed to grab her hair and pull her to safety. He was so upset by this near miss that he had a canvas pool constructed for the children to swim in instead.

    Rose Greenhow (Confederate spy) & daughter. On July 9, 1861, and July 16, 1861, she delivered intelligence to Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard containing details of McDowell's plans for the First Battle of Bull Run. Confederate President Jefferson Davis credited her efforts with helping to secure the Rebel victory at Bull Run.
