Winter Queen ~ by Alastair (Aly) Fell - Manchester, U.K. illustrator Why does she look so upset? She holds a bitter memory. And why such muted robes for a queen?
Winter Queen by Aly Fell. It reminds me of the illustrations in one of my old fairy tale books.
Winter Queen ~ by Alastair (Aly) Fell - Manchester, U.K. illustrator One of my all time faves!!

Jezebel, the Eldest inspiration. "The Morrígan ("phantom queen") or Mórrígan ("great queen"), also written as Morrígu is a figure from Irish mythology. She is a goddess of battle, strife, and sovereignty. She sometimes appears in the form of a CROW, flying above the warriors, and in the Ulster cycle she also takes the forms of an EEL, a WOLF and a cow. She is generally considered a war deity comparable with the Germanic Valkyries."(Wikipedia)
..what would fairytales be without the wicked queens, stepmothers, villains or witches?

"i loved the stars too fondly..."
Inspiration, Illustrations, Stars, Fairy Tales, Night, Yellow, Artist, Space, Painting
I enjoy this artwork because of the fairy tale theme. One contrast is the color, from bright yellow hair to a dark night sky with the woman's body. Another one is from a woman's hair and body disappearing into the space.
This work interests me because how the girl's hair and stars come together to form the top part of her body. The compositional balance the artist is using is her hair and body. The positive space would be her golden hair and the negative is the stars.
I enjoy this work because of the extreme contrasts given. One major contrast is the color, from bright vibrant yellow hair to a dark night sky with the woman's body disappearing into it. Another contrast is the objects, from a woman's hair and body disappearing into the void of space. I think these contrasts are strong and work well for the art work
Negative Space. This reminds me of something from a fairy tale from when I was little called princess furball..."she opened up the walnut shell and out she pulled the dress that looked like it was spun out of starlight..." (or something to that extent) she even has the walnut shell!
Stars shining bright above you... night breezes seem to whisper, I love you...

Zdzisław Beksiński, I only wish that I knew the name of this painting. It's my favorite not just of his, but one of my favorites ever.
Zdzisław Beksiński. He experienced a lot of death in his life and explores it in his paintings. He was murdered in 2005
Saw a post that had a painting by Zdzisław Beksiński in it, so I thought I'd share some more of his surreal artwork. - Album on Imgur
Before his untimely murder in 2005, renowned Polish painter Zdzisław Beksiński brought us to the dark side of surrealism with his gothic, nightmarish paintings. Although Beksiński’s art was often grim, his personality was nothing of the like. He was said to be a shy, humorous man who was mostly inspired by music and never went out to see others’ artwork. In fact, Beksiński avoided any kind of statement about his own work, saying “I cannot conceive of a sensible statement on painting”.

'On the Sea' -art, M. Lindberg: 'To & fro, In my little boat I go, Sailing far across the sea, All alone, just little me. The sea is big & strong, the journey very long. To & fro, In my little boat I go, Far away from home & play, Only with the sea for friend & the fishes in the sea. But they swim away from me, Far away from home & play. Then he cried "O Mother dear." He woke & sat upright. They were in the rocking chair, Mother's arms around him- tight.' ~K. Mansfield ‘A Little Boy's Dream'

René Gruau remains one of the most renowned fashion illustrators, for the stunning silhouettes, dramatic use of colours and powerful minimal lines, which lead to the incredibly seductive, sophisticated and elegant imagery. He was born in Italy in 1909, his father being an Italian aristocrat, while his mother, whose last name he adopted, was a French Socialite.
