"But, if you give us a chance, we can perform. After all, Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels."--Ann Richards Missouri-born Virginia Katherine McMath, nicknamed “Ginga” by a young cousin who had difficulty pronouncing her name, caught the theater bug as a teenager from her mother, a Fort Worth, Texas theater critic. Little did the world know at the time that the wide-eyed beauty, later known as Ginger Rogers, would be a Hollywood starlet! Her career took her along the American film industry in 1929, but it was her partnership with a charming gentleman and fellow dancer by the name of Fred Astaire that she is most fondly remembered for. Said Rogers, “My mother told me I was dancing before I was born. She could feel my toes tapping wildly inside her for months.” Her beauty was a visualization of the classic Hollywood Golden Age, the kind of glamour that is often replicated by modern industry darlings. "The most important thing in anyone's life is to be giving something. The quality I can give is fun, joy and happiness. This is my gift." To achieve the Hollywood starlet’s classic glamour, Chic Studios recommends: Cover FX’s Natural FX Water Based Liquid Foundation (http://www.coverfx.com/US/Water-Based-Liquid-Foundation-SPF-15-P2.aspx?section=1), applied with a wet makeup sponge to gain coverage and not an overly cakey look TheBalm Hot Mama Blush (https://www.thebalm.com/makeup/mama.htm), for a very light and subtle pink sweep along the cheeks NARS Satin Lipstick in “Afghan Red" (http://www.narscosmetics.com/color/lips/lipstick/~/satin-lipstick), a dark raspberry red color that was popular in the 1930s among Hollywood elite like Ginger Rogers Givenchy Eyebrow Show Powdery Eyebrow Pencil (http://www.givenchybeauty.com/item/Eyebrow%20Show), dramatically defined eyebrows filled with an eyebrow pencil Ginger Rogers was one of the beauty icons whose bold and classic looks have transcended style decades, making her a favorite Hollywood glamour girl!

i remember seeing an interview with astaire where he talked about the weight of this beaded dress. he commented how the heavy sleeves would thwack him in the face as he twirled ginger, and in the movie you can see him trying to steer clear of them :-)
Ginger Rogers dances to "Let's Face the Music and Dance" in "Follow the Fleet". I've been lucky enough to actually hold this dress. It weighs about 25 lbs, but it sure doesn't look like it!
Ginger Rogers dances to "Face the Music and Dance" in "Follow the Fleet" I love me some Ginger Rogers
"Face the Music and Dance" in "Follow the Fleet." This dress was heavily beaded and weighed a ton. The first time she spun around with Fred Astaire in this dance, the sleeve smacked him in the face so hard it stunned him. They did about 20 takes of the dance, but Astaire was noticeably dodging the sleeves in each take. So they director used the first take, in which Astaire had no idea the smack was coming and danced perfectly.

Ginger Rogers (born Virginia Katherine McMath; July 16, 1911 – April 25, 1995) During her long career, she made 73 films, collaborating with Fred Astaire as a romantic lead actress and dancing partner in a series of ten Hollywood musical films that revolutionized the genre. She achieved great success on her own in a variety of film roles and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Kitty Foyle (1940).
Ginger Rogers in In Person (1935). I love this movie. My lobby card from this film is one that Ginger signed for me when I first showed her my collection. I asked her how she could dance in these pants with a rise almost down to her knees. She said it wasn’t too bad because they were loose, but she didn’t try any high leg lifts. She said that at that time (beginning of stricter enforcement of Breen) they really didn’t want women wearing pants at all, but especially not pants that were too fitted. Cute outfit anyway, and great tap number.

Astaire & Rogers: Why do I love this? Maybe because speaking, talking, and communication is all a dance. It can be smoothe and fluid, or it can feel like you are lugging a 300 lb. lead weight around with you....Stimulating speech and language is a dance too; you both must move simultaneously in many cases for results to occur
