Periodic Table Ceiling Tiles: good for science classrooms

  • Melissa D

Science teachers! A Ceiling Periodic Table for your classroom. It gives students something productive to zone out/stare off at

  • K Rod

not a science teacher-but cool idea Scott Byrum on his high school chem class: "I’m having to compete with all the Xboxes and the Nintendos, so I have to keep my sword sharp," Byrum says. "Unless I can keep my classroom hopping and keep it exciting, I will lose the students in a matter of moments. This periodic table on the ceiling almost engages their minds visually like a game."

Periodic table battleship: "When I do this I split the class into pairs and give them the set up. I would start off having them call out element names or atomic numbers, then I would have them use the period/group number to call out the elements. To challenge the students at a higher level I have them call out atomic masses or electronegativity. To mark the “ships” I had them draw on the periodic table (its laminated) but next time I will use bingo chips."

Perodic Table project. Elements are made from a 1/2 page of paper. This is a project I did this last year with my 6th and 7th grade science students. It took us about a week, but by the end i think they really understood how the periodic table was organized.
