Rome, the eternal city. Got to face the facts here: there are a ton of tourists. But there are so many nooks and crannies that it IS possible to escape the beaten path. St. Peter's Cathedral - Rome (HDR)

The Roman Forum, shown in the picture, was the center for public Roman life and a very important area for everyone during the Republic. It was the place of elections, public speeches, criminal trials, and even gladiatorial matches.

The Vatican. Number one place on my dream travel list. Stunning on TV, can't wait to see it in person one day.

St Peter's Basilica, Vatican City having seen this basilica, I just have to say no picture will do it justice...it really does have to be seen to be believed.
