Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) botanical fine art photographer -

By Dianne Kornberg: "In the spring of 2003 I was invited to spend a month at the Whiteley Center residence for scholars and artists at the University of Washington's Friday Harbor Laboratories on San Juan Island, to photograph in the marine algae herbarium. In these pigment prints, the physicality of the ink on paper closely mimics the thinly pressed algae specimens, and the photographic prints take on attributes of graphic media such as watercolor or pastel."

“I really do prefer to give the ideas time to surface… and I need to work repetatively with impulses to make them part of my vocabulary or language… a way has to be found into the rhythm that works … quite simply.” - Sophie Munns
