If you don’t have a shoelace, you can use yarn with a plastic sewing needle.  In the event that you don’t have a sewing needle, you can use my handy little trick to make a kid-friendly sewing needle out of a drinking straw.    Shorten a drinking straw, and cut a slit in one end.  Insert your yarn into the straw, secure it in the slit, and you’re good to go!
