At 98 ft (30 m) in length and 200 tons or more in weight, the Blue Whale is the largest known animal to have ever existed. They were hunted almost to extinction until protected by the international community in 1966.

Blue whales are the largest mammals, and possibly the largest animal of any kind to have lived on Earth. A long, whale has been seen, but most are smaller than this.
