    Buster Brown ~ a tradition

    • Susan Allen

Buster Brown Shoes - That was me. I had all the sturdy, orthodedic styles in black and white oxford, brown and white oxford, every shade of brown available, all black, and even in black suede. I might have even had a pair of forest green at one time. I longed for some Mary Jane buckled little-girl looking shoes

Buster Brown shoes. "I'm Buster Brown I live in a shoe. That's my dog Tag he lives in there too. (remember that)

Buster Brown Shoes - Every spring we got our annual pair of "Easter Shoes" for church and dress-up. Remember Buster and his American pit bull dog named Tige?

I remember getting Buster Brown shoes. One time they had a bin full of marbles and we each got to get a handful if we got new shoes. That was the greatest thing!

Do you remember Buster Brown shoes and did you have a pair when you were a child? These shoes were an absolute nightmare! They never wore out and you couldn't destroy them, no matter how hard you tried. The only way you could truly be free of them is if your feet got too big or you lost them (on purpose, of course). If your formative years were traumatized by these indestructible shoes, pin it! :)

Buster Brown Shoes, I wore the saddle oxfords in a very stiff corrective shoe. I do remember getting the Red ones once. KS

Smilin’ Ed McConnell‘s weekly radio show. That show, a major hit on the NBC roster in the 1930′s and 40′s, was sponsored by Buster Brown, by that time long forgotten as a seminal comics character, but rather a trademark of a particular brand of children’s shoes. Had the saddles, the Mary Janes & my favorite ~ the red ones...just like these.

Buster Brown shoe ad--this was one of the good brands. Mother always bought me shoes with straps--lots of time the double straps. I always wanted those kind that the straps would slide down behind the heel and leave my shoes strapless. Got tired of "functional-looking" shoes. Guess that's why I went and bought my 5-yr-old granddaughter a pair of sparkly shoes with a little heel...because I remember!!!
