New Images From The Deep Ocean | Popular ScienceNew Images From The Deep Ocean A 21-slide show of animals found in the abyss. NOAA scientists completed a three-week exploration of the ocean floor. Here's a glorious breakdown of what they saw. Fascinating. A transparent purple sea cucumber that swims where its kin grub up mud for food. A dumbo octopus. Bright yellow jellyfish. A community of oil-eating animals. Debris from a shipwreck. A nice little exploration of the deep sea. Going in Animals.

a beautiful mathematical construct… a reminder that we perceive beauty in the emergent patterns derived from simple iterative algorithms (shells, organic growth, life, culture, evolution) The Wentletrap shell takes its name from a “spiral staircase” in German-Dutch, and it reminds me of the architecture of Gaudi

Interesting Patterns and Fractals from Nature
Gods signature! The Golden Ratio - Derived from the Fibonacci numbers is what is called the golden ratio. If we take each number of the Fibonacci sequence and divide it by the previous number in the sequence (i.e. 2/1, 3/2, 5/3, 8/5), a pattern quickly emerges. As the numbers increase, the quotient approaches the golden ratio, which is approximately 1.6180339887. Sunflower seeds grow adjacently at an angle of 137.5 degrees from each other, which corresponds exactly to the golden ratio.
