TRILOBITE fossil - (Metacanthina barrandei) from around 416 - 360 million years ago in its host rock. They are extinct hard-shelled, segmented arthropods that lived in ancient seas, considered one of Earth's earliest, complex life-forms and are one of the most well-known creatures of the Palaeozoic Era. Trilobites existed between the Cambrian and Permian periods around 542-250 million years ago, and were mainly bottom-feeding, scavengers. ~ HERVE CONGE, ISM /SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY

The Strangest Cambrian Creatures Ever Discovered

A unique rock formation in the Atlas Mountains of Morroco contains thousands of specimens of perfectly preserved trilobites. After the rocks are collected highly skilled artisans use dental drills to cut away the matrix leaving these astonishing fossils.
