One of the best books I've read in a long time. A story about a family and their struggle living through the Depression. The author's descriptions and character development make you feel as if you have gone back in time.

The Crazy Ladies of Pearl Street, Trevanian. Pinner writes: "The year is 1936. Six-year-old Jean-Luc LaPointe, his little sister, and their spirited but vulnerable young mother have been abandoned by his father, a charming con artist. With no money and no family willing to take them in, the LaPointes manage to create a fragile nest at 238 North Pearl Street in Albany, New York. For the next eight years, through the Great Depression and Second World War, they live in the heart of the Irish slum."
The Crazyladies of Pearl Street by Trevanian - In this richly textured autobiographical novel about growing up on a poor Irish block in Albany, N.Y., the author recalls his childhood during the Great Depression through World War II. In 1936, six-year-old narrator Jean-Luc La Pointe, his mother and younger sister leave Lake George Village for a gritty tenement in Albany to reunite with their deadbeat father and husband. He never shows up, and the penniless family makes do on their own.

As many of you are probably not aware, Joe Hill is actually Joe Hill King, the son of legendary author Steven King. This book was the first I read of his and was introduced to me by an ex-boyfriend. I would recommend it to any fellow Steven King lovers out there. Joe really has a lot to live up to with his father's legacy, and I believe he is well on his way.

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. Judas Coyne is a heavy metal musician and a collector of macabre artifacts, but finds himself in over his head when he purchases a haunted suit over the Internet. This is a nasty, vengeful ghost story, and one of the most impressive horror debuts in the last ten years. Not surprising, when you consider that Joe Hill is the son of Stephen King!
Heart Shaped Box | Spooky as hell because the ghosts are almost real. Joe Hill happens to be Stephen King's son. It's a different strain of horror though.
Heartshaped Box by Joe Hill - This is a very well written novel, and a prime exampel of contemporary horror.
