By now, we all know that Barbie’s figure is impossible to achieve in real life, so Pennsylvania-based artist Nikolay Lamm decided to show us what Barbie would look like if she had the measurements of a real woman. Lamm made a 3D model using the measurements of an average 19-year-old, and photographed it next to an actual Barbie Doll. Interestingly, Lamm’s doll looks more natural than Barbie herself. Which begs the question: why can’t Mattel manufacture one?
This is what Barbie would look like if she were scaled to the body size of the average 19-year-old woman in the US. Given the negative impact that playing with Barbies can have on girls’ self esteem and eating patterns, how hard would it really be for Mattel to make Barbies with healthier & more realistic bodies? #NickolayLamm.

What would Barbie look like if she had the same proportions as a real woman? Photo: Nickolay Lamm/MyDeals.com What would Barbie look like if she had the same proportions as a real woman? Instead of an impossibly tiny waist, non-existent bottom and ridiculously long legs, an American artist's realistic version of Barbie looks like a healthy, normal young woman. Motivated by a desire to demolish the unrealistic body image perpetuated by Mattel, makers of the world's best selling doll, Pittsburg artist Nikolay Lamm decided to create a Barbie based on an average woman's measurements. After reading research that found Barbie created a desire to achieve a slim body and eat less, and heightened body dissatisfaction among young girls, the artist set to work. Using US government figures, he researched average height, weight and waist measurements for 19-year-old girls, then built a digital model on his computer. With the latest 3-D printing technology, Lamm manufactured his alternate doll, photographed her beside an original, then carefully added Barbie's features and clothes to his doll with Photoshop. Before releasing his completed doll on the internet this week, the artist showed his Barbie to his mother, who said: "I think this is going to be big."
If #Barbie knew what #RealWomen looked like....
Lammily is a brand of dolls created by artist and researcher, Nickolay Lamm. The company goes with the slogan: "Average is Beautiful" and promotes a healthy lifestyle and realistic beauty standards. The doll, Lammily, wears minimal makeup and is dressed with striking simplicity. It is based on the size of the average 19 year old woman. It helps build young girls' self-esteem, and gives a realistic idea of body image. Backers of this project could get an exclusive, first edition of Lammily.

... harness invented by mother of wheelchair-bound son helps disabled children walk for first time this is awesome!
Debby Elnatan, an Israeli mother whose son has cerebral palsy, has invented a device called the Upsee that will make it significantly easier for parents and their disabled children to take walks together. Cerebral palsy and the movement difficulties it brings make it difficult for kids like Rotem, Elnatan's son, to walk. The Upsee, however, makes this simple form of bonding a lot easier.

Autistic disability rights activist Paula Durbin, who joins us in Tuesday's live chat, represents the view of many national advocates for autistic adults, who say autism is no excuse for murder. Durbin said she is tired of people justifying attempts on the lives of autistic victims by citing the challenges the victims may pose to those around them.
