2 player game, each player inserts his word list in spaces going across (one letter per box). Players take turns guessing coordinates. If they miss, they mark it on their board. If they hit a letter, they keep guessing until they miss. If they sink a word, the player marks it off of his list. The goal of the game is to sink all of your opponent's words.
4 Games to Help Kids Think Critically about Vocabulary
I do not believe that giving students a list of words and telling them to memorize it for a test is super effective. I think this spelling activity would encourage students to make relationship to the words, while reinforcing some vocabulary as well.
By keeping a supply of laminated paint samples, students can easily practice writing and reading compound words they come across in print. This makes for effective vocabulary activities to keep at the writing center!
