Dark, cold & whipped by supersonic winds, Neptune is a hydrogen & helium gas giant in our solar system. Over 30 times as far from the sun as Earth, it takes almost 165 Earth years to orbit our sun. In 2011, Neptune completed its first orbit since its discovery in 1846. On Neptune, one "day" (time it takes to rotate once on its axis) takes 16 hours. Magnificent CME Erupts on the Sun - August 31 On August 31, 2012 a long filament of solar material that had been hovering in the sun's atmosphere, the corona, erupted out into space at 4:36 p.m. EDT. The coronal mass ejection, or CME, traveled at over 900 miles per second. The CME did not travel directly toward Earth, but did connect with Earth's magnetic environment, or magnetosphere, causing aurora to appear on the night of Monday, September 3.
It is a tree? Is it solar power? Is it art? It's all three! I would like to see what kind of bird makes a nest in it, first.I bet it wont be a woodpecker. It could happen. In Vermont we have towers covered to look like trees so the big birds can nest... and so it is not an eyesore above the tree line.
Clouds of Perseus ~ contains over 10,000 solar masses of gas and dust, but the eye is drawn to red NGC 1499. Known as the California Nebula, its characteristic glow of atomic hydrogen gas is fueled by ultraviolet light from luminous blue star Xi Persei. Farther along, intriguing young star cluster IC 348 and neighboring Flying Ghost Nebula. On the outskirts of a giant molecular cloud, another active star forming region, NGC 1333, lies near the edge of the wide field of view.
