7/29/13 the baking soda TOTALLY worked! The deep splinter actually worked its way out completely on its own over the course of a few hours. I pulled off the bandaid and the splinter was sitting on my skin a bit away from the hole. thesecretyumivers...
Removing splinters - I tried this tonight on a splinter from a plate that I got 3 days ago! I was afraid I was going to have to go to the Dr at age 33 to get my splinter out! Nothing got it out until I tried this! I still had to pull, but it was easy and almost painless. I combined it with the Orajel suggestions. Soooo impressed!
Painless Splinter removal - 1/4 tsp of baking soda and enough water to make a paste put on a splinter will force the splinter out on its own. If Splinter is shallow there is no need for tweezers. Place paste on the splinter, let sit until splinter is mostly out of the skin then wash away with soap and water. Can take between 20 mins to 2 hours depending on how deep the splinter is embedded. Deeply embedded may need tweezers, but it will be easier to get it out after this.
Splinters come in all shapes and sizes. They all hurt, though! Ironically, it's usually the smallest splinters that cause the most grief and pain, because they're difficult to remove. Fortunately, there are many different ways to kick that splinter out.
Make splinter removals less painful. Put a paste of baking soda and water on a splinter and leave for a few minutes, the baking soda will push the splinter out saving your child an unnecessarily painful splinter removal.
