Anderson Valley was officially recognized as a wine-growing region and given an appellation of its own in 1983. In addition to the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer grapes in the Valley, there are also small plantings of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc,White Riesling, Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Merlot. MacCallum House and Mendo Wine Tours are proud to serve Bink Wines.
Our favorite vineyard, TALLEY, is tucked away in Arroyo Grande's Rincon valley, just 6 miles off the central Pacific Coast. We adore their Pinot Noir's; the 2007 Rincon is lush and the 2008 Rosemary's is intense. The Chardonnays rate among the BEST and age "elegantly."
Napa Wineries: Truchard Truchard makes 15 small-batch bottlings of Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, several of which are available only in its tasting room. Tours here (sometimes led by a Truchard family member) take guests around the vineyards and wine caves, including samples of four wines along the way. truchardvineyards.com
