    Unusual Antique Tibetan Pilgrims Cap lavishly encrusted with natural Turquoise nuggets, agate, and horn beads was handcrafted approximately 100 years ago in the Tibetan Autonomous Region (Xizang). The crown on this unique cap is made of old embroidered textile, with a swinging top-knot that is embellished with natural Turquoise and cowrie shells. When not being worn, these caps were carried by their top-knots, which often had to be replaced when they broke or wore through.

    Shaman hat, Nepal. Rare example of Nepali Shaman hat. Nepali shamans - Jankhri & Dhami who are spirit mediums and shamanic healers often have headgear with bird feathers or porcupine quills, kauries and coins attached. The trisule, an iconic symbol for Shiva, at the crest is also frequently incorporated into their costume. Often those shamans are from the Tamang (and perhaps also Magar) ethnographic groups in NW Nepal. Materials: cloth, porcupine quills, kauries, iron and coins.
