The SPLENDID FAIRY WREN is native to the Australian continent.  The male bird shown is in breeding plumage. Non-breeding males, females and juveniles are predominantly brown-grey in color.  These birds are monogamous socially, but not sexually.  Male birds are known to pluck pink or purple petals for the females as part of the courtship display.  Their diet consists of insects and seeds.
