Lieu, a stem cell scientist in cardiovascular medicine at UC Davis Health System, has received a $1,300,000 research grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) to develop stem cells that could serve as a biological alternative to the electronic pacemakers that people now use to regulate heart rhythm.
